Snapchat Third Party Apps: What Works, What Gets You Banned

snapchatthird-party appssnapchat modsaccount locks

Snapchat third party apps are anything outside the official app that touches your account: modded clients like Snapchat++ and SnapEnhance, “viewer” sites like LockNoid and GhostDroid, screen recorders, story downloaders and snap savers. Snap bans the unofficial ones and locks accounts it catches. The mods and saver apps are all patched or gone, the viewer sites don’t deliver, and every screen recorder alerts the sender. If you want to save snaps with no screenshot alert, SnapNinja is the one tool that still works.

Below is every 3rd party Snapchat app people search for, grouped by type, with what it claims, whether it still works, and how likely it is to get you locked. Looking for apps like Snapchat instead? This isn’t that list.

Updated November 2026 against Snap’s current help center rules.

What counts as a third-party Snapchat app

Snap draws the line by how an app connects, not what it does.

Allowed:

  • Snap Kit apps. Apps that offer “Log in with Snapchat” or share to Snapchat through Snap’s official developer kit. They should never ask for more than your Display Name and Bitmoji, and never your password.
  • Snap Minis. Small apps that run inside Snapchat’s own chat.
  • Snapchat+. Snap’s own paid subscription. Don’t confuse it with “Snapchat Plus” or “Snapchat++”, which are mods.

Not allowed:

  • Any app or site that logs in with your Snapchat username and password.
  • Modded Snapchat apps, tweaks, plugins and addons that change the official app.

Is Snapchat a third-party app? No. Snapchat is the first-party app. “Third-party” means anything built by someone other than Snap that connects to it.

Where to see your connected apps: in Snapchat, go to Settings > Connected Apps, tap an app, and choose Remove. Snap also removes inactive partner connections after 90 days.

Modded Snapchat apps and tweaks

These are rebuilt versions of the Snapchat app, or tweaks injected into it, that add what Snap won’t: saving snaps without a screenshot notice, hiding “typing” and “opened”, spoofing location, and so on.

Snap’s help center names these as unauthorized: Emulator, Wicked, SnapEnhance / SE-Extended, FMSC, iota, Snapchat Plus / Snapchat++, SCOthman, Phantom, Sneakaboo and SnapTools. Mods that circulate on IPA sites, like SniperLite Plus, SCFalcon and SnapGO, aren’t on that list by name, but they’re built the same way and fall under the same rule.

Does it work? No. Every one of these is patched or gone, and none saves snaps without notifying the sender today. They used to work for a while between Snapchat updates; now all they reliably deliver is a lock.

Ban risk: the highest of anything here. Snap locks accounts it catches using them, and users report temporary locks, permanent locks and device bans. The other risk is the file itself: a modded APK or IPA from a random site can carry malware or quietly send your login somewhere else. You’re handing your account to whoever built it.

Third party Snapchat apps for iPhone

On iPhone, mods arrive as IPA files you sideload with tools like AltStore, Sideloadly, TrollStore or Scarlet, or as tweaks on a jailbroken phone. Same rule, same risk, and they’re patched just the same, plus the hassle of re-signing apps that expire. If removing a tweak doesn’t stick, a jailbroken phone may need an iOS update or the jailbreak removed to clear it fully.

If the goal is saving snaps on iPhone, you don’t need any of this. See how to save snaps on iPhone without a tweak.

Snapchat third party apps download (Android)

Android mods come as APKs from download sites and Telegram channels. We don’t link to them, and none of them works anymore. Anything that asks you to install a modified Snapchat, or a “plugin” that hooks into it, is the category Snap locks accounts for.

Emulators and alternative clients. “Emulator” is on Snap’s list too. If you just want Snapchat on a bigger screen, use Snap’s official web version: how to use Snapchat on a computer.

If you only want to keep the snaps people send you, you don’t need an APK. SnapNinja works in Chrome on your Android phone.

”Viewer” and spy sites: LockNoid, PeekNoid, GhostDroid and co

This is where most “3rd party snapchat viewer” and “secret snapchat app” searches end up. The names: LockNoid, PeekNoid, LockVade, NosyPeek, GhostDroid, Snaptroid, SnapSpy, Snap Reveal, SpyLens.

What they claim: type in any username and see their best friends, who viewed their profile, their My Eyes Only, private stories, even live typing. No login needed.

Does it work? No. None of these sites delivers the private content it promises. Snapchat doesn’t expose profile viewers, My Eyes Only or live typing to anyone, so there’s nothing for a website to pull from a username.

What’s reported to happen: the pattern looks like a content locker. You get a “loading” screen, then a wall asking you to “install 2 apps” or finish a survey to unlock the results. These sites also spread across clone domains registered recently: locknoid.co was registered on 2026-09-23 and ghostdroid.net on 2026-06-08.

Is LockNoid safe? Is GhostDroid safe? No. These sites can’t access the private Snapchat content they advertise. What they reliably do is push “unlock” offers: app installs, subscriptions and forms that harvest your data. Never type your Snapchat login into one. Close the tab.

Screenshot and screen-recorder apps

SaveStory and ShotSaver on Google Play, plus your phone’s built-in recorder, capture what’s on your screen while a snap plays.

Does it work? No. Every method that captures your screen alerts the sender: screenshots, screen recording (built-in or third-party), screen mirroring, screenshots of Snapchat Web on a computer, and the airplane-mode trick, where the alert arrives when you reconnect. Apps sold as private screenshot or saver apps are patched or gone. And what you capture is a recording of your screen, not the file.

Ban risk: low. They don’t log in to your account or modify the app.

More detail: apps to screenshot Snapchat, screenshotting on Snapchat and screen recording on Snapchat.

Public story downloaders

Paste a username or link and download public Stories, Highlights or Spotlight videos. No Snapchat login, so no account risk.

The limit: public content only. No downloader can get snaps sent to you or anyone’s private story.

For public videos, see downloading Snapchat videos and saving Snapchat stories.

Memories export helpers (Memport)

Memport is an iPhone app (about $9.99 one-time) that works on the data export Snapchat gives you, so it never asks for your Snapchat login.

Is Memport safe? It’s low risk for that reason. It’s a different job from saving incoming snaps, though: it organizes your own Memories. You can also do it yourself with Snapchat’s export: how to export your Snapchat Memories.

Dead legacy savers: Casper, SnapHack, SnapSave

Casper, SnapHack, SnapSave, SnapCapture and 6snap were the original Snapchat saver apps. Snap shut them down in its 2014 to 2015 lockdown. Any “download” for them today is either a dead page or a repackaged file you shouldn’t install.

SnapNinja: the cloud snap saver

SnapNinja is a cloud service you use from your phone’s browser. You connect your own Snapchat account, see the snaps friends have sent you that are still unopened (plus photos and videos saved in your chats), and tap Save on the ones you want. SnapNinja’s servers copy the original photo or video file into your private online gallery, where you can view and download it while subscribed. It’s the one tool that still saves the snaps people send you without them knowing.

What makes it different from a mod:

  • Your Snapchat app stays stock. Nothing modifies it, so there’s no tweak for Snap’s app checks to find.
  • Nothing to sideload. No IPA, no APK, no jailbreak, no app store download. It runs in Safari or Chrome.
  • It only saves what you choose. Tap Save on one snap, or use Save all in a conversation. Nothing is saved until you tap.
  • No screenshot alert. No screenshot or screen recording is taken, so Snapchat has no screenshot alert to send. You get the original file, videos with sound.

Save before you open. Once you open a snap on your phone, it drops off SnapNinja’s New snaps list at the next refresh, unless it was saved in the chat. Save it, wait until it shows in your Saved tab, then open it in Snapchat as normal. SnapNinja saves photos and videos only: no chat text, no friends’ stories, no Memories.

If Snapchat asks you to approve new logins in the app, that works. Accounts that need an SMS or authenticator code to log in aren’t supported yet.

Account risk, plainly: SnapNinja connects with your Snapchat username and password, so by Snap’s own definition it counts as third-party access. Snapchat doesn’t endorse that, so there’s some account risk. We haven’t observed bans, but nobody can honestly promise zero risk, and we won’t. Your login is encrypted on your device before it’s sent and deleted once connecting finishes.

Connecting and seeing what’s waiting is free, no card. Saving is $29.99/month or $199/year, unlimited with a fair-use cap of 1,000 saves a month. Cancel anytime.

More detail: how SnapNinja works and the FAQ.

What Snap’s policy actually says

From Snapchat’s help center page Can I use third-party apps or plugins with Snapchat?:

  • “It is against our Terms of Service to use any unauthorized third-party apps or plugins.”
  • Such apps “can put your account — and your friends’ accounts — at risk.”

Snap defines unauthorized apps as those that use your Snapchat login information (username and password) instead of Snap Kit, and names the same mods listed above. It says using them can get your account locked and associated devices banned. That’s why every straight answer about third-party Snapchat apps starts with lock risk.

Locked for using a third-party app? How to recover

Temporary lock. The message reads along the lines of “temporarily locked due to unauthorized third-party app or plugin use (Wicked, IOTA, etc)”. The lock length is shown in the app or sent by email. To get back in:

  1. Uninstall every unauthorized app, mod and tweak.
  2. Install the official Snapchat from the App Store or Google Play and update it.
  3. Reset your Snapchat password.
  4. When the lock period ends, unlock at accounts.snapchat.com.

Snap’s locked-account page says “If your account is locked, Team Snapchat will not be able to unlock it,” so waiting out the lock is the route. Snap also says login trouble can linger for a while after you delete the app.

Permanent lock. If your account is eligible, you’ll see an Appeal Decision option in the app, and that’s the only route. Some locks can’t be appealed. Reviews can take up to 30 days.

Device bans. Commonly reported error codes: SS06 and SS18 mean the device is banned, and SS07 means too many accounts on the device. A new account on the same phone won’t fix a device ban.

Ignore “unlock services.” Anyone selling an account unlock is running a scam. Snap is the only one who can lift a lock.

How to spot a fake third-party app in 10 seconds

  • It wants your Snapchat password but hides that it does. Any service that logs in to your account should say so up front.
  • “Install 2 apps to unlock.” Survey and app-install walls are content lockers, and they never deliver.
  • It promises data Snapchat never exposes. Profile viewers, live typing, My Eyes Only, someone else’s private story.
  • Clone domains or a brand-new domain. Same site, five names, all a few weeks old.
  • No price until you enter a card. A real service tells you what it costs before checkout.

Is there a way to save snaps without the other person knowing?

Yes, two ways, and only two:

  • A second phone. Photograph your screen. No alert, but the quality is rough and you get one look, plus a Replay if you use it.
  • SnapNinja. The original file, no screenshot alert, nothing installed. Save before you open. It’s the only tool that still works.

Everything else either alerts the sender or can’t reach snaps sent to you. Screenshots, screen recording, mirroring and the airplane-mode trick all trigger the alert. Save in Chat works on no-limit photo snaps and looping video snaps, but the saved media appears in the chat, so the sender can see you saved it. A public downloader only reaches public Stories and Spotlight.

Frequently asked questions

What are third-party apps for Snapchat?

Apps and sites built by someone other than Snap that connect to your Snapchat account or modify the app: mods like Snapchat++ and SnapEnhance, viewer sites, screen recorders, downloaders and savers. Snap allows apps that connect through Snap Kit and bans the ones that use your username and password or change the app.

Is Snapchat a third-party app?

No. Snapchat is the first-party app made by Snap. Third-party apps are the ones other companies build around it.

Can you get banned for using third-party apps on Snapchat?

Yes. Snap’s terms forbid unauthorized third-party apps, and users report temporary locks, permanent locks and device bans, most often from modded clients. Snap names Snapchat++, SnapEnhance, Wicked and Phantom among others, and those mods are all patched or gone now, so the risk buys you nothing.

Which third-party apps are allowed on Snapchat?

Apps connected through Snap Kit (like “Log in with Snapchat”), Snap Minis inside Snapchat, and Snap’s own Snapchat+ subscription. You can review them under Settings > Connected Apps.

How long is a Snapchat lock for third-party apps?

A temporary lock’s length is shown in the app or by email. After it ends, remove the unauthorized apps, reset your password and unlock at accounts.snapchat.com. Permanent locks can be appealed in the app if your account is eligible, and review can take up to 30 days.

Does LockNoid work? Is GhostDroid safe?

No. LockNoid, PeekNoid, GhostDroid and similar viewer sites don’t deliver the private content they promise. The reported pattern is a content locker: a “loading” screen, then “install these apps to continue.” The offers they push can cost you money and data, so don’t give them anything, least of all your Snapchat login.

Is Snapchat++ or SnapEnhance safe?

No. Both are on Snap’s named list of unauthorized apps, so using them risks a lock. Downloading them from unofficial sites adds malware and password-theft risk on top. And both are patched: neither saves snaps without notifying the sender today.

Is there an app that saves Snapchats?

SnapNinja is the one that still works. It saves the original photos and videos friends send you, with no screenshot alert. It isn’t an App Store app: it runs in your phone’s browser. Tap Save before you open the snap. Connecting is free, and saving is $29.99/month or $199/year.

Is SnapNinja safe? Can I get banned?

SnapNinja uses your Snapchat login, which Snapchat doesn’t endorse, so there’s some account risk. We haven’t observed bans, but we won’t promise zero risk. Unlike a mod, it doesn’t touch the Snapchat app on your phone, and you install nothing.

How do I remove a connected app from Snapchat?

Go to Settings > Connected Apps, tap the app and choose Remove. For mods and tweaks, uninstall them and reinstall the official Snapchat.

Which third-party Snapchat app should you use?

Not a mod. Snapchat++ and SnapEnhance are patched or gone, and Snap locks accounts caught using them. Viewer sites like LockNoid and GhostDroid don’t deliver. Every screenshot, recording and mirror alerts the sender. SnapNinja is the one tool that still works: if you want to keep the snaps people send you, in original quality with no screenshot alert and without modding anything, save them in SnapNinja before you open them. It connects with your Snapchat login, so there’s some account risk. Connecting is free, and plans are on the pricing page.
